Eagle Ring Dive Instructions

Congratulations on earning your UNT Ring — a reflection of your unique college story and a connection to your future alma mater. We hope you enjoy your Eagle Ring Dive!

  1. Choose a special person to present your ring. This is a perfect moment to recognize parents, family and friends who played a supportive role in your UNT journey.
  2. Meet at the Library Mall Fountains and have your special guest place the ring on your finger with the UNT inscription facing you.
  3. On the count of three, dip your ring into the fountain to be immersed in the spirit and tradition of UNT.
  4. Dry off your hand with the commemorative Eagle Ring Dive towel.
  5. Share your videos and photos on social media with the hashtag #EagleRingDive, and don’t forget to tag @NorthTexasSAA! You’ll automatically be entered to win a commemorative Jostens keepsake.

The Storied Symbolism Behind Your UNT Ring

UNT Ring history illustration

Detail 1 – On the traditional class ring, the name "University of North Texas" appears prominently.

Detail 2 – The soaring eagle has been our official mascot since 1922. Its talons, to which we pay tribute through our eagle claw hand sign, represent our pride and unity.

Detail 3 – The university seal was adopted in 1890, the year of our university's founding. The seal features:

  • An eternal flame as a reminder of academic achievement and excellence.
  • The Lone Star, representing the great state of Texas.
  • Olive and live oak branches, signifying peace and strength.

Detail 4 – The McConnell Memorial Tower is represented by two clock faces on the tower:

  • One hand at one o'clock, signifying the internationally recognized One O'Clock Lab Band.
  • The other hand at seven o'clock, recalling the evening curfew for students at Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute in 1892.
